Boy’s Bedroom – Progress

Last week I shared the plan for my son’s bedroom makeover here. This week, I thought I’d show you the changes we’ve made so far, as well as the long To Do List to take this room to completion. First off, let’s have a look at the before (when we first toured the house):

The only structural change we made here was to raise the height of all doors to meet today’s standards. All the doorways in the house were squat little openings that threatened to bump more than a few heads. The rest of the changes were cosmetic and included:

  1. Laying new hardwood floors
  2. Installing new trim and casings
  3. Repainting
  4. Installing a new light fixture

I’ve removed all unnecessary items from one side of the room (where the bed will go) in order to work on the built-ins and headboard. Once this side is done, I’ll begin work on the dresser/desk side of the room. Here’s what it looks like today:

It’s hard to tell from the ‘before’ shot, but the walls were actually a light blue colour when we bought the house. Here’s the new paint palette:

My To-Do List:

  1. Paint trim (it’s still just primer…I know; shameful!)
  2. Make upholstered headboard
  3. Finish built-in installation
  4. Purchase and paint Malm dresser in Web Gray
  5. Purchase, stain and install wood top for desk area
  6. Make and install drapery panels with blackout lining
  7. Reupholster vintage desk chair
  8. Frame and hang art
  9. Accessorize!

Lots to do still, but I’m excited to try my hand at some new projects!

Are you redecorating a room in your home? I’d love to hear all about it!
