One of the projects I have on the go right now is redecorating my son’s bedroom. Well, maybe redecorating isn’t exactly accurate since I never really decorated it in the first place. I basically threw in a bed and dresser and called it done (liveable) while we worked on getting the main renovations complete. I shared my daughter’s room makeover here and now I’m turning my attention to giving my sweet little guy a vintage hip hangout to call his own.
I have big plans to DIY an upholstered headboard with nailhead trim in this velvet via Tonic Living. The vintage desk chair from Kijiji (to be picked up and reupholstered) and a vintage persian rug I purchased at the Aberfoyle Antique Market will bring character & charm to the room. I also found two Ikea Magiker Bookcases (now discontinued) on Kijiji & have been transforming them in Sherwin Williams Web Gray (SW7075). They’ll get new furniture style legs and some crown to make them look built-in on either side of the bed. They’re a big job that will need a post all their own once finished.
For the other side of the room, I plan to run a long wood countertop over his dresser (which will get the same Web Gray treatment as the bookcases) and brace it to the far wall to create a desk area. A little something like this:
So there’s the general plan for the room’s transformation. There certainly is a lot to do & many tasks will be a first for me; like the headboard and sewing the drapery. Fingers and toes crossed that I can put a serious dent in my to do list over the next couple of weeks.
Have you tackled any of these DIY projects before? I’d love to hear about your experiences and how it all turned out:)
